I have created this fundraiser on behalf of some dear friends of mine. I am reaching out with a heavy, but hopeful heart to find ways to help support the family of 3-year-old Walker Shaw.
On November 17, 2024, Walker went to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital and was diagnosed with a very rare type of kidney cancer, Anaplastic Wilms Tumor. This specific type of cancer is primarily found in young children and is more high-risk than other Wilms Tumors. On November 18, 2024, Walker underwent surgery to have his left kidney completely removed, where they thought the tumor was only located. During the surgery, they discovered that the tumor had metastasized into his ureter and some concerning lymph nodes, all of which were removed in addition to the kidney. The family spent the rest of the week in the hospital recovering and waiting on the proper diagnosis from pathology, meanwhile, trying to envision what their future will look like as this is the new normal for them. They will meet with the doctors on November 25, 2024, to discuss treatment and what exactly this process will look like going forward.
As imagined, the Shaw family is going to have a long road ahead physically, emotionally, and financially. While their main focus is on Walker's upcoming treatments of chemo following radiation and any other struggles that they may endure along the way, we are trying to ease the financial burden as much as possible. We are hopeful that we can raise money to help with expenses as the parents of Walker, Cameron and Kennedy (Badua) Shaw, are both on an unpaid leave of absence from their work. They need our help to make it through this next year that is already full of unknowns.
If you feel led or compelled by donating to help the Shaw family in any way, they would be forever grateful for your generosity. If you cannot donate at this time, please at least share this story.
We want Cameron, Kennedy, Walker and Lakynn to know that they are not in this alone! As they visit with doctors and treatment starts, I will continue to add updates so you can follow along Walker’s progress!
Please pray for Walker as he navigates through this life-altering diagnosis. #WalkerStrong
