In the spring of this year (2024), Wyatt Duhon, age 14, began experiencing severe headaches and nausea. An eye exam was set up to investigate the cause of the headaches.
At the eye exam, the doctor found signs of inflammation of Wyatt’s optical nerves. The doctor expressed serious concerns about the cause of the inflammation and recommended for Wyatt to see a physician.
As Wyatt and his stepmom, Lydia Duhon, made their way from Lake Charles to Sulphur (Louisiana), he began to experience numbness and tingling in his limbs and lost his ability to speak. He was brought to the emergency room where a golf ball-sized brain tumor was found. Wyatt was then life flighted to Texas Children’s in Houston.
On March 21, Wyatt underwent surgery to remove the tumor. He would go on to be diagnosed with Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma grade three.
Wyatt underwent radiation treatment which took a heavy toll on him. He completed his first round of treatment but unfortunately, there was a new tumor found at his follow-up appointment. They had prepared a specialized treatment just for Wyatt but the subsequent scans have shown a further 6 brain tumors which caused complications in his treatment plans.
At this point, the course of action is to live and love for as long as possible. We are fundraising to support the family in this time of need, and to allow Wyatt’s father, Frank Duhon, to spend as much time as possible with his family as he typically works out of state.
