My name is Nakesha, and I am a stay at home mom and small business owner doing everything I can to provide for my son, Waylon. Raising a medically complex child is not just a full time responsibility, it is a life devoted to appointments, medications, hospital stays, advocacy, and loving him through every challenge that comes our way. It is exhausting, overwhelming, and at times heartbreaking, but it is also the greatest honor of my life to be his mom. From the very beginning, Waylon has shown us what true strength looks like. He continues to fight through more than most people will ever have to face, and he does it with a resilience that inspires everyone who meets him. Most recently, Waylon endured a long inpatient hospital stay from May through June that changed the course of his heart journey. We received the devastating news that due to complications, he is no longer a candidate for the Fontan procedure we had once placed so much hope in. Hearing those words was something no parent is ever prepared for. Instead, we have now been referred to the heart transplant team. While we are incredibly thankful that a transplant is an option that could save his life, stepping into this new chapter brings fear, uncertainty, and many challenges. Transplant is not just a surgery, it is a lifelong journey filled with extensive testing, frequent hospitalizations, medications, travel, and constant monitoring. It means preparing for the unknown while continuing to show up strong for Waylon every single day. We are raising funds to help support Waylon’s heart transplant journey and the many needs that come with it. Donations will help ease the financial strain of medical related expenses, travel to and from the hospital, meals during long stays, medications, and the everyday costs that continue while caring for a child with critical health needs. Although we work hard to provide for Waylon, we do not currently receive Social Security Disability, and the financial pressure can become overwhelming at times. Emergencies happen, hospital stays can be unexpected, and there are moments when Waylon’s dad cannot be with us, making outside support more important than ever.
