Update #2: Violet has to stay in the hospital again tonight. This made me so sad this morning when I got the news. The vet decided to give her a strong medication to get her bowels moving. I was starting to worry that my sweet girl would never be the same - but then I went to visit her. Even though she was obviously still hurting, she perked up while we hung out. She even gave me little nose kisses and when I had to check my phone because of work, she got up and crawled into my lap just like she always does. I am very hopeful she'll come home tomorrow! It's supposed to be a huge hurricane force winds storm starting tonight and I would just like to have my pupper back and safe with me and mom.
Update: Violet is still under the care of Island to Island veterinary practice. She has been perking up but also is still having trouble keeping her food down all the time. Because it was a surgery on her intestines, they are watching her closely and are concerned about motility in the guts. I miss my sweet baby! The folks at Island to Island are wonderful and doing everything they can to get her back to her old self. When I visited yesterday she had a lot of grumbling and complaining to do - letting me know she was over this whole not being at home thing. Hopefully tomorrow will be her release day.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We are so very grateful. I put up a few more pics of V from years past. Her sister Stella (RIP) is in a few of them. Stella was an awesome dog too. She crossed the bridge just a few months before we moved back to Ketchikan.
This is Violet Smalls, a sweet, silly, 5-year-old Chihuahua in need of some help. Violet and her human (me) left our lives in Portland, Oregon, in June to come back to my hometown of Ketchikan, Alaska. In the few short months we have been here, Violet has needed two completely different surgeries!
Right now, Violet is recovering from intestinal surgery after a bezoar (hairball) made its way down her tiny intestines and got stuck. She scared the bejeezus out of me and my mother by getting sick very suddenly and refusing to eat (VERY out of character for this girl). An emergency trip to Island to Island ended up meaning surgery. With the vet bills climbing by the hour, we are asking for a little help to ease this extremely large added expense.
