My name is Tom Duffy, and I have been an Art of Living teacher since 1991. I was personally instructed by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to start the Prison SMART program in the U.S. This program brought stress relief, resilience, and personal transformation to underserved communities.

As founder and Executive Director of the Prison SMART Foundation (1991–2008), I was blessed to teach the Sudarshan Kriya breathing technique and cognitive-skills programs to more than 5,000 incarcerated individuals in over 20 U.S. states and several countries, including South Africa, Botswana, and Malawi.

In 2001, I was invited by Nelson Mandela’s bodyguard to bring these programs to the South African prison system, helping inmates reduce anger, anxiety, and hopelessness. I have dedicated my life to empowering people in challenging environments—from prisons to at-risk youth programs. From 2000 to 2008, I served as LA Probation’s Violence Alternative Program (VAP) Gang Program Specialist, working alongside Bill Richardson as the CMYC Stress Management Specialist at the Challenger Memorial Youth Center, using the tools of the Art of Living Foundation to create lasting change.

I would like to invite you to join my team in funding the purchase of a camper van—a mobile home base for my outreach work across the U.S. I welcome your input (and donations!) toward naming it—something like The Smile Mobile—as it will carry love, peace, and smiles to communities across the country.

In 2019, I was invited to join the teaching staff of Project Welcome Home Troops. Through this project, I will be offering the Art of Living course content free of charge to U.S. veterans nationwide. Your contribution will directly support this mission to serve our honorable veterans.
