In October 2024, Todd was admitted to the hospital with severe confusion. After thorough work up, he was ultimately diagnosed with hepatic encephalopathy secondary to cirrhosis of the liver. This is a condition that causes severe confusion, lethargy and muscle weakness as a result of liver failure. Despite a liver biopsy in November, we still do not know what caused the liver damage. Unfortunately, Todd has been unable to work or drive since January 2025. He could potentially return to work after a liver transplant providing all goes well, but this is not guaranteed.

Todd underwent an extensive 3-day evaluation at the Nebraska Medical Center in April 2025 to determine if he is eligible for a liver transplant. The transplant team said he is a candidate and has placed him on the liver transplant list!! As you can imagine, this is going to be a very costly procedure and recovery - in addition to the costs of all of the treatment he has received leading up to it.
