Todd and I have worked together at Subaru in Claremont for over the past 7 years. In that time, he has become more than just a fellow employee in the Parts Department. Not only has he taught me the dealership life, he taught me Subaru culture as well. From the STI Fast & Furious side, to the now Forester Wilderness aspect and everything in between. In trying not to make this sound labored or excessive, Todd is and always has been a damn good parts guy, employee, and friend. Both he and his wife Courtney have (literally and figuratively) been loyal Subaru Ambassadors for over 10 years. Courtney has spent thousands of her own money giving back to local charities and shelters, without looking for recognition.
I preface all of that to say this, Todd and Courtney could use our help. They would never ask for this because of who they are. But we as a family take care of our own. Todd was recently diagnosed with stage 3 throat and neck cancer. And it's already been a long haul. Medical bills are already astronomical, and it would seem they are just getting started. So if you can find it in your hearts and wallets, and are able to donate to a couple that ask nothing from anyone, ever. Please consider this great cause.
**UPDATE**
Update on Todd’s Journey
First, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Nick, the entire
Lundgren team, our family, friends, and every single person who has
donated, shared, or sent love our way - we feel your support like a
blanket of healing hugs. We couldn’t walk this road without you.
On August 8th, Todd went to the ER with neck pain and loss of voice. A
CT scan revealed a large mass in his neck. Thanks to a dear friend
from my 15 years at DHMC, he was quickly seen by an excellent ENT team
that following Monday. Just days later, on August 14th, we received
the call no one ever wants: a diagnosis of Stage 3 Squamous Cell
Carcinoma at the base of his tongue and tonsil region. The tumor is
large, inoperable, and has permanently paralyzed his right vocal cord.
A PET scan soon revealed additional concerns in his lung. A biopsy
confirmed cancer in his right upper lobe. The procedure was
complicated by his difficult airway, leading to trauma during
intubation and three days in the ICU. It was scary and stressful.
On September 10th, Todd underwent surgery to place a mediport for
chemotherapy and a G-tube to help with nutrition. The very next day,
he began his first round of chemo and immunotherapy. He handled it
with courage, but soon after, a CT scan revealed a blood clot
stretching from his neck artery to his brain. This meant another
urgent hospital stay, more scans, and treatment with blood thinners.
So here we are:
- Stage 3 Head & Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- Positive Right Lobe, same finding
- Venous Sinus Thrombosis (blood clot)
Our days are now filled with pill bottles, countdowns to the next
chemo sessions, and countless appointments. Some days feel like two
steps forward, then a giant leap back. There have been many tears -
mostly mine - and many moments where I wish I could so much more.
Through it all, Todd continues to show incredible strength, courage,
and continued movement forward one step at a time.
We are all in on this fight. We believe in his healing. And we are
endlessly grateful for the love and support surrounding us. From us
