Hi everyone,

This past Thursday, our world turned upside down. Thomas Harris was rushed to the ER with shortness of breath and symptoms of a possible heart attack. He was immediately admitted to the ICU, where doctors worked urgently to stabilize him and understand what was happening.

After several tests, we learned that Thomas has been living with undiagnosed high blood pressure and pneumonia, both of which have caused serious damage to his heart and kidneys. While the doctors were able to bring his blood pressure under control, the damage to his kidneys has worsened because they had been working under constant strain for a long time.

Currently, Thomas’s heart is only pumping at 20% capacity, far below the normal 60%, due to clogged arteries. Unfortunately, his kidneys are too fragile right now for doctors to perform some of the necessary tests and procedures that could help improve his heart condition.

As of now, Thomas will be starting dialysis tomorrow. This is a big step, and while it’s not an easy one, we are hopeful. With time, there's a possibility that dialysis could help his kidneys recover to the point where he may no longer need it, but that outcome is still uncertain. We are taking things one day at a time and leaning on hope.

He spent three intense days in the ICU and has since been moved to a hospital room. Despite this, there’s still no clear timeline for when he’ll be discharged because of the many uncertainties about how his kidneys and heart will respond.

Anyone who knows Thomas knows he’s the kind of person who shows up for everyone else, calm, kind, and selfless. It’s incredibly hard to see him like this and even harder not knowing what the future holds.

We created this page because many friends and family have asked how they can help. Right now, what we need most is time, to be with him, manage his care, and support each other. Any financial support will go toward his mounting medical bills, ongoing treatments, medications, and everyday expenses as we navigate this challenging time.

Este pasado jueves, nuestro mundo se puso de cabeza. Thomas Harris fue llevado de emergencia a la sala de urgencias con dificultad para respirar y síntomas de un posible ataque al corazón. Fue admitido de inmediato en la unidad de cuidados intensivos (UCI), donde los médicos trabajaron con urgencia para estabilizarlo y entender qué estaba ocurriendo.

Después de varias pruebas, supimos que Thomas ha estado viviendo con presión arterial alta sin diagnosticar y neumonía, lo que ha causado graves daños a su corazón y riñones. Aunque los médicos lograron controlar su presión arterial, sus riñones se han deteriorado debido al esfuerzo prolongado al que han estado sometidos.

Actualmente, el corazón de Thomas está funcionando al 20% de su capacidad normal, muy por debajo del 60% habitual, debido a arterias obstruidas. Lamentablemente, sus riñones están demasiado delicados en este momento para que los médicos puedan realizar algunas de las pruebas y procedimientos necesarios que podrían ayudar a mejorar su condición cardíaca.

Mañana, Thomas comenzará con diálisis. Es un paso importante, y aunque no es fácil, mantenemos la esperanza. Existe la posibilidad de que la diálisis ayude a que sus riñones se recuperen lo suficiente como para que eventualmente no la necesite, pero eso aún es incierto. Por ahora, estamos viviendo día a día.

Después de tres días intensos en la UCI, Thomas fue trasladado a una habitación de hospital. Sin embargo, aún no hay una fecha clara de alta, ya que todo depende de cómo respondan su corazón y sus riñones al tratamiento en los próximos días y semanas.

Quienes conocen a Thomas saben que es el tipo de persona que siempre está ahí para los demás, tranquilo, amable y generoso. Verlo así es muy difícil, y aún más no saber qué nos depara el futuro.

Muchas personas nos han preguntado cómo pueden ayudar. Creamos esta página porque, en este momento, lo que más necesitamos es tiempo: tiempo para estar con Thomas, para manejar su cuidado y para apoyarnos como familia. Cualquier aporte económico será destinado a sus crecientes gastos médicos, tratamientos, medicamentos y necesidades diarias mientras atravesamos esta situación tan difícil.
