Hi, my name is Jeff Wilson. I am fundraising on behalf of my friend, Edie Strange. Edie's husband, Kevin, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2018, later identified as poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma with metastases to the bone and brain - Stage 4. Cancer began in the lower back and pulverized the right part of Kevin's pelvic bone causing tremendous strain to his right hip and knee. In addition to these bones, it has moved to his brain and lymph nodes.

Kevin had emergency surgery in September 2018 to alleviate pressure on the brain caused by the inoperable tumor. He also started radiation treatments on his head and back along with chemotherapy. In October 2019, Kevin underwent hip replacement surgery due to cancer in the bone. Although he endured extreme weakness, Kevin could move cautiously with a walker.

In April 2022, a blood clot was detected on Kevin's right leg, requiring a one-month stay in the hospital. He underwent significant surgery to remove the clot, but it was determined that the earlier radiation treatment had caused a pressure ulcer. Kevin nearly lost his right leg, but the medical team saved his leg and foot because of quick action. However, being immobile for a month created severe weakness, and Kevin was sent to a skilled nursing center. Unfortunately, his insurance coverage was minimal, and he could not complete the necessary treatment. One week after leaving the skilled nursing facility, he developed an infection in his leg and was admitted to Missouri Baptist Hospital for another one-month stay. Again, he was released to a skilled nursing facility, but before the necessary treatment was completed, he was released due to his insurance coverage.

Last month (November 2022), Kevin was again admitted to the hospital for weakness and disorientation. He was diagnosed with an MRSA infection which is being treated with antibiotics. He was released, sent home, and now has a pressure ulcer on his heel and is transferred from bed to a wheelchair via a transfer board.

Kevin and Edie have accrued an incredible amount of medical bills because of his illness. Kevin lost his job and their health insurance, and the transmission went out in their car, costing over $7,000 to repair. Edie borrows cars from relatives to get to work, take Kevin to medical appointments, and get groceries. And as luck would have it, they also had a water pipe break in their home.

This continuing illness has been a long and painful journey for Kevin and Edie. In addition to holding down a job, Edie has become a caregiver for Kevin with all the physical and emotional demands it requires. The outstanding medical bills have become overwhelming to keep up with. By setting up this page, I hope we can help this much-loved couple breathe a little easier with some desperately needed help in addressing their medical bills and to ease the financial burden this awful situation has brought them.
