The West County Tennis Association is a corporate non-profit (501c3) organization. It was formed expressively for the purpose of raising money to build the only public tennis courts in Sebastopol.
Through extensive fund raising, enough money was raised to finance and build a four-court facility at Ragle Ranch Regional Park. The Association signed a contract with the Parks Department that gave them exclusive rights to conduct child and adult clinics, provide private tennis lessons, and to host many USTA League events. In this agreement was the provision that stipulated the courts would always be available for the public to show up and play. That has been the case since the courts were dedicated in 1995.
The Association signed an eighteen-page contract that outlines all the responsibilities of the facility; ongoing daily facility maintenance, replacing wind screens, replacing the tennis nets, and the resurfacing of the courts every seven years. The problem we are faced with now is that the courts are starting to crack to the point that resurfacing is no longer an option. The courts need an asphalt overlay that is estimated to cost $150,000.
When the courts were dedicated in 1995 the cost of maintaining, replacing, and resurfacing was affordable with the money that was generated from annual dues for membership.
Any donation to the West County Tennis Association is tax deductible. The tax ID number will be given upon request.
