Support the Harmon-Robison Memorial Scholarship Fund

To Whom It May Concern,

Hi, my name is Walker Fetner, and I’m 13 years old. I’ll be going into 8th grade this fall. I’m writing to ask for your help with a project that’s really important to me.

For my 8th-grade service project, I decided to dream big. Ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to go to the U.S. Air Force Academy. I’ve been doing service projects over the years to learn how to be a good leader and help others. My dad is a police officer, and I really look up to him. I want to make a difference in our community just like he does.

Last year, I learned about two Lincoln police officers — Allen Lee Harmon and Otis Lee Robison — who were killed in the line of duty back in 1974. Chief Darren Britton and my dad helped get part of AL Highway 77 named after them, which was really cool. But I wanted to do something more that would help people remember them for a long time.

So, I started the Harmon-Robison Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be for high school seniors who want to serve their country or community — like becoming a police officer, firefighter, joining the military, or similar jobs. I plan to give the first $2,500 scholarship in April 2026 and keep doing it every year. The scholarship will go to a student from one of these counties: Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Talladega, or Randolph. Each year, it will rotate between counties, and if the fund grows, I want to give out even more scholarships!

Students will have to show leadership, good grades, and a heart for service — just like Officers Harmon and Robison had.

My goal is to raise $100,000 so this scholarship can last for a long time. That might sound like a lot, but if I can find 200 people to give $500 each, we can do it! That’s why I’m asking people across our state to help out.

I also want to set up a special investment fund so the money can grow over time, and the scholarship can be paid out from the earnings. One day, I’d even like to offer refunds to donors who ask, as long as it doesn’t hurt the fund. I know that’s a big idea, but I believe I can do it with hard work and support.

We are putting together a Board of Directors to manage the fund and pick the winners each year. I’m really excited that a family member of Officer Robison has already agreed to be on the board!

As you can probably tell, I’m not your average 13-year-old. I love sports, video games, and hanging out with my friends, but I also really love my country and want to do something that matters.

If you’re able to donate to the scholarship, I would really appreciate it. Even if you can’t give right now, sharing the scholarship link on social media would be a huge help too.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my letter. Please help me honor these two heroes by helping me meet my goal.
