A Mother Fighting Two Battles: One Against War, Another for Her Life

My name is Sara Dezyk, and today I am reaching out with a trembling heart.

My family and I live in Gaza, where the ongoing conflict has destroyed everything we spent a lifetime building our home, our safety, and our sense of stability.

But while we struggle to survive the devastation around us, another tragedy has struck inside my own body.

I am now battling a severe and possibly life-threatening pelvic condition, with medical findings requiring urgent evaluation and treatment that are nearly impossible to access here.

I am asking for your help because my children need a home…

and they need their mother.

OUR HOME 60 YEARS OF SAVINGS REDUCED TO RUBBLE

Sixty years ago, my family invested every coin they had into the home that raised us.

It was our sanctuary, the place where:

My children took their first steps

We shared countless meals together

We laughed, planned, and dreamed

But in an instant, everything disappeared.

The bombings destroyed our home completely.

We are now displaced, grieving not just concrete and walls, but the memories and security that home gave us.

Our belongings, our furniture, our history gone.

In the middle of losing our home, I also received terrifying medical news.

My recent MRI found a very large mass in my pelvis (11 × 13 × 14 cm) that is pressing on my uterus, bladder, and intestines. There is also fluid buildup around my organs.

The doctors say the mass is likely ovarian and needs urgent tests, including:

A biopsy and pathology

PET/CT scan

BRCA genetic testing

These tests are essential to know whether the mass is cancerous and what treatment I need.

But in Gaza, access to this kind of medical care is extremely limited or impossible due to the destruction of hospitals and lack of equipment.
