Can you believe we didn't know where Temple Street was this time last year?!
After initially having a seizure on the way home from pre-school in October 2022, River was admitted to Temple Street as his seizures became more frequent and unfortunately resistant to drugs.
Under the care of the neurology team in Temple Street, River was diagnosed with a rare brain disease called Rasmussens Encephalitis, affecting only 2 in 10 million people worldwide. We researched hospitals from Texas to China to get the best care for River... and guess what? The best doctors, neurosurgeons and medical care were right in front of us the whole time.
In March of this year, River underwent a radical operation to remove half of his brain in the theatres of Temple Street. The procedure has given River huge hope for the future, he is learning to walk and talk again and has regained his cheeky personality.
We spent seven months in Temple Street with River and will be forever grateful to this talented bunch of specialists on our own doorstep.
We saw first hand how fundraising has benefitted the children and parents in the hospital. The playroom, parents accommodation, CT scanner, music therapy and neurology building were all directly fundraised for.
It's been an emotional journey for our family. Of course we now know where Temple Street is!!!!... and more importantly, we got to know the dedicated people that work quietly behind that blue door.
We are on a mission to raise much needed funds for Temple Street this Christmas so they can continue to offer this support to more families who arrive through that blue door each day, not knowing what awaits them on their own journey.
