Update from Taryn: April 3, 2024

Everyone has been asking for updates. Too many texts to answer. We don’t have a lot more information as of right now. I started Aridimex today. It made me feel dizzy and nauseous.

Tomorrow I will have a PET scan performed to see if the cancer is anywhere else, so this test is crucial and what we’ve been impatiently waiting for. Tomorrow I will also have a breast biopsy to determine what kind I have.

I didn’t know this going in, but the liver is actually farther down the list of where breast cancer typically spreads. Most common is the brain, lymph nodes, bones & lungs. I will have a brain MRI Saturday.

Having this knowledge will allow the doctors to plan the best treatment route. I meet next week to schedule my hysterectomy as well.

I feel a thousand times better having stopped the hemorrhage. Other than fatigue and worry, I feel pretty good right now.

(New photo uploaded) A kayakers dream is to paddle off into the sunrise or sunset. My slogan is Sunrise of Hope and a dear friend created this image and somehow made it look like me. Note the trailing cancer ribbons. This is too special to not share. I will get there!

Original Post:

Around Christmas last year, Taryn began having some unexplained stomach pain. She monitored it and went to her normally scheduled appointments. Everything came back fine each time. In February, she had an upper scan done as the pain had changed and increased. She was told to have an ultrasound in case it was her gallbladder. March 9th, she started hemorrhaging and on March 10th, she had her ultrasound.

After the ultrasound, Taryn was immediately contacted as something had been found in her liver. Fast forward to March 20th. Taryn was scheduled for a biopsy of her liver, while still hemorrhaging. After her biopsy, she was sent over to the Hamot Women's Hospital for evaluation. She was given a blood transfusion and told if she waited any longer, she may not have survived with all of the blood loss.

March 24th, Taryn found out she has late stage liver cancer which is metastatic and may have started in the breast. The odd part is that they still cannot find the primary tumor. More testing will begin immediately to try to see where the cancer has spread or originated from.

As of today, March 27th, Taryn will be starting some treatments tomorrow, and a full hysterectomy will be scheduled in the next week or two. The oncologist stated that if treatment does not go well, she may not have long.

While this post is anything but good news, Taryn is in good spirits and is ready to fight! However, she is concerned for her son, Gaven, who is 15. She is also concerned about the upcoming medical bills that will pile up regardless of how she is doing.

I am asking on behalf of Taryn to please consider donating to help her along this difficult path, as well as for Gaven's future. Regardless of the outcome, Gaven's future will be immediately impacted by all of the medical care Taryn will need. We appreciate your generosity and love for Taryn and Gaven.
