Hi friends and family. I haven’t done this in a little while, but I’m reaching out to see if anyone can offer a small donation to help support my students during our January term class.

The Tacoma School of the Arts, where I work, as well as our sister schools, the science and math institute and the school for industrial design and engineering are very unique and offer a one month focused, project based class every January between semesters. Classes are a mix of 9th through 12 graders and are all day, everyday classes for the entire month. Miniterm, as we lovingly call it, is a wonderful and unique opportunity for students in high school to do a deep dive into various subject areas, complete unique projects, and really build community with peers and staff.

This January, I am co-teaching a course focused on Washington state history, as well as backcountry winter camping and backpacking. We are partnered with the Mountaineers to help students build skills and will also be learning some relevant Washington State history. We will be tackling big questions around Indigenous history, land stewardship and borders and boundaries.

All this to say, we are looking for a little bit of extra funding to make sure we can cover the costs of some of our expenses. Any donations made will go towards transportation costs and supplemental food/rental equipment for camping. For many of our students this will be their first time camping, and we want it to be a wonderful first experience!
