Hello dear friends, chosen family, and fellow seekers:
After years of navigating grief, survival, and self-discovery through addiction, loss, and recovery, I'm ready to bring a project into the world that feels more meaningful, more necessary, and more me than anything I’ve done.
I'm writing a book titled Divine Camp: The Gospel According to Good Judy. It's a story of learning to find God in the static of modern life, scripture in pop songs, and a sense of grace big enough for all of us. Part memoir, part mixtape, part scripture, this book has been my lifeline back to God, music, friendship, and most of all, myself.
I'm raising funds for the essential tools and support to complete this book with the care it deserves:
- A reliable computer so I can write, research, and edit without interruption.
- Essential costs like copyright registration to protect the work and submission fees for finding a literary agent.
- Modest living expenses so I can dedicate focused time to writing while I'm at my parents' home in Louisiana, where I can be present for my family during a challenging time.
- Hiring a professional editor and designer to help prepare the manuscript for publication and ensure this story enters the world with beauty and clarity.
So many of us are starved for a faith that feels real, not performative. (As Cheryl Lynn belted out in 1978: "It's Got To Be Real!") This won’t just be my story. It’s a mirror, a prayer, and a love letter to anyone who’s ever felt too complicated, too unworthy, too eccentric, or too delightfully gay for God's grace.
If you’ve ever seen yourself in me, laughed or cried with me, or felt illuminated by words or music, I’m asking for your help to carry the light forward. This book is the culmination of everything I've survived and everything I've come to believe, and I know it is a story that needs to be told.
