Hi, my name is Sophia, and I never thought I'd find myself in this position, and I don't wish anyone to ever be. This past week has been one of the most emotionally and mentally taxing on me. One of the loves of my life, my sweet kitty, Sylvester (Sylvie), unfortunately had to have emergency surgery on Monday.

What I first thought was a flare-up of his herpes infection turned out to be much worse. Within minutes, I had to make an impossible choice: say goodbye or attempt surgery. I went in on Monday unable to say goodbye, but financially, I had no choice. Thankfully, my partner Ian, with the utmost kindness of his heart, took out a loan that day to help cover the remaining cost of the surgery.

What was supposed to be a 1-hour procedure turned into a 5-hour surgery, and the bill skyrocketed. I also could not afford to keep him at the hospital for post-op care after Thursday, so Sylvester is currently recovering back at home with us. We are doing everything we can to provide a peaceful and safe recovery with the limited resources we have.

I am so grateful that Sylvester is still with me, that I get to continue being his mother and Ian the father that stepped up haha. I can still pet him, kiss him, and hear his sweet meows. He is only 2 years old and has so much life to live. He is my partner in this lifetime, and I’m holding on to hope that with proper recovery at home, I get to continue smiling with him and have another 20+ years together.

Unfortunately, this event has left me with a heavy emotional and financial burden. Your donations will go directly towards covering Sylvester’s surgery and post-op medical expenses, including IVs, G-Tube, medications, anesthesia, and surgical equipment. Every single dollar goes directly to his medical bill, helps ease the weight of it, and allows me to focus on helping him heal.

A little bit about Sylvester:

I adopted Sylvester in September 2023, during graduate school, from FriendsofNormie. He has been my absolute rock through the hardest times of my life. He wipes away my tears, he makes me laugh and smile, somehow always smells absolutely amazing, and brings me comfort in ways I cannot describe. Everyone who meets him calls him sweet and attention-seeking in the best way possible. He truly brings people together in my life. I got this little guy tatted on me, so he can be with me everywhere. He means the absolute world to me.
