Palo Alto Racing Team (PART) Mission Statement and Funding Request
Our Sponsorship Proposal: PART Sponsorship Proposal
Our Mission
We are an independent group of Stanford students who have created a grassroots racing team. In our first season, we are hoping to race a 1990 Honda Accord which we will work on in between classes and on the weekends in a parking lot on campus. Initially just 2 friends with a crazy idea to compete in the 24 Hours of Lemons (a 16-hour endurance race with a $500 performance limit), we have grown to include over 20 members in less than 2 months.
Our short-term goal is to build a race car while augmenting our theoretical classroom education with practical, hands-on experience. It’s truly amazing how many people have approached us so far looking to join because they want to “work with their hands,” and “don’t know a lot about cars and how/why they work.” We started this team because there was a lack of hands-on engineering clubs and automotive opportunities on campus and we didn’t want to wait to get told no. We are passionate about working on cars and when we couldn’t find an outlet, we created one. The Lemons racing series presents an extremely low-cost option for wheel-to-wheel racing and we think it’s a perfect launching pad for our mission.
Long-term, our mission is to establish a formal, University-associated racing team with various projects and teams. This first season is integral for being able to demonstrate to the University and other organizations that we are serious about racing and getting people involved. This is a tremendous opportunity to create a program that gets underrepresented groups involved in the automotive sphere, as well as the ability to work with local schools to get kids excited about engineering. What would inspire someone to be an engineer more than building a race car?
What We’re Looking For (And What We Can Offer)
To jumpstart this project, we have been entirely self-funded until now. As we get midway into our project, there are numerous costs we need help with. The $500 does not include any safety equipment costs which we detail on the budget analysis spreadsheet. We estimate the total team cost to be nearly $10-12k. Despite being the cheapest form of endurance racing, turning wrenches and burning tires still costs a lot! We have many awesome ways to get involved but this is by no means exhaustive: any ideas for support and sponsorship are welcome.
$500 or less: Decal
$1000: Larger Decal/Logo/Full Body Panel Decoration
$1500: Major On-Car Branding, Pits Sponsorship
$2500+: If you say it, we’ll probably be able to make it happen (Title Sponsor, Seat Time, etc.)
