Hi friends, family, and fellow adventurers!
This November 15th, 2025, Howard and the team will be lacing up our running shoes for something truly special: a MARAthon through one of the most iconic wildlife destinations on Earth: Kenya’s legendary Masai Mara.
We have a team of 4, running 12.5k each and a team of two both running 25k. In the team of 4 we have Ollie (Howard's son), Liberty and Grace (who both work for Saunders Safaris) and Laura (a good friend of Howard's). Howard will be running the 25k with Dianne taking on the 2nd half. We’re not just racing for the thrill, we’re racing for a cause.
This Ultra Marathon is a fundraising effort that supports four key beneficiaries who help protect and preserve wildlife and communities of the Mara region. Your contribution will directly support:
Rangers on the frontlines of conservation — by funding their salaries, gear, and training so they can continue their critical work protecting wildlife and habitats.
Elephant conservation — to ensure the long-term survival of elephants through research, tracking and the ongoing human-wildlife conflict.
Woman's healthcare initiatives — bringing vital medical services to women in remote and underserved communities.
Local Masai communities — to ensure the people of the Masai Mara are equal stakeholders in preserving their land and heritage.
We are incredibly excited to be covering and participating in this event. Every donation, no matter the size, helps fuel this mission and supports those doing the real work on the ground in Kenya. You can learn more about this event by clicking here: UltraMaraThon.
This cause is especially meaningful to us, with Howard not only serving as an event organizer but also as a co-founder since 2020.
Mara Elephant Project USA Inc.
The Mara Elephant Project (MEP) was established in 2011 with the mission of protecting elephants and their habitats across the Greater Mara Ecosystem. In 2012, poaching emerged as the number one threat to elephants when 96 elephants were killed for their ivory, but now, the expansion of the human footprint resulting in increased conflict and habitat loss is an accelerating crisis. MEP focuses on four aims: elephant population protection, elephant habitat protection, human-elephant coexistence, and landscape connectivity. Our approach is to deploy innovative techniques and technologies to monitor the four dots, evaluate conservation data, and produce actionable outputs to influence policy, landscape planning, and the deployment of resources.
If you can’t donate right now, sharing this fundraiser is also incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. It means the world to us.
