The Boyle family relocated to Dave's hometown in Canada in August 2022 and before they had a chance to settle, Melissa was diagnosed with multiple invasive forms of breast cancer. The emotional impact on the family has been boundless; they had to seek medical answers and care without a family physician/advocate for specialist referral. The lack of a medical representative or Medicare Number makes it essentially impossible to register for consultations, schedule surgeries and define treatment protocols. Managing the logistics and overcoming the red tape of a stubborn medical system has taken its toll.

Dave & Melissa's two teenage children now have the weight of processing their mother's illness while trying to adjust to all the challenges of living in a new country, finding new friends, and attending a new school. Last but not least, Melissa's sudden illness has left her unable to work; she was poised to start a new job but had to step back to focus on her health and recovery. As a result, it's safe to say the family could benefit from any financial relief.
