On December 19th 2024, Davy survived a catastrophic ski crash.
After he was rescued by the ski patroller team, intubated in the field, rushed to the hospital via ambulance for life-saving medical care, Davy was urgently airlifted to a Level 1 Trauma Center in Denver.
There he had immediate brain surgery, seizures, and another complex and lengthy surgery to repair a severe humeral fracture and a totally severed radial nerve. He spent weeks in the hospital including ICU, had countless other severe injuries, and a robust medical team with specialties spanning:
- trauma,
- neurology,
- orthopedics,
- physical therapy,
- occupational therapy,
- physical medicine and rehabilitation,
- neurosurgery,
- and intensive care specialists.
While it is somewhat easy to tell you about the facts of the injuries, we know you can imagine the unspeakable hardship, trauma, terror, shock, and terrible pain - both physical and emotional - that Davy has experienced these past 3 months. Our whole family has felt the impact. This is a life-changing event, and we continue to process and adapt.
These words are coming from Veronica, Davy's sister, and I am writing to ask you for financial support.
I am filled with joy, relief, and profound gratitude to tell you that Davy is ok. He is past the crises, thankfully. All of his doctors regularly tell him that he is an anomaly, a miracle, a wonder in the medical community from injuries that kill the vast majority of people. Without going too deep into details, I want you to know that he is a hero to me, and to his whole family, especially to his wife, Ashley.
A f*cking hero.
He has an arduous road of recovery ahead - looking at 2 years roughly - for a more complete recovery, including regaining the use of his right hand and continuing the slow recovery from a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) with various challenging symptoms. However, we expect him to recover fully or very close to it. What a gift.
The medical bills are immense and growing, as you can imagine. Davy and Ashley are sitting on top of a monster pile of medical expenses, currently totaling ~$300,000.
Any help you can give Davy and Ashley is deeply felt, appreciated, and revered. If you cannot help, that is ok too. We know you love us.
Regardless, thank you for taking the time to be here with all of us. We count this experience as a heroic story of survival, family coming together, and all the love we can fit in our hearts.
Take good care and know that your life, and Davy's life, is a miraculous treasure.
