As students studying Film at Sheridan College, we hope to share our love for the arts alongside many like-minded and passionate filmmakers. We came together along with an extremely talented crew to create a story that we feel can reach, connect and relate to all. We truly believe that art forms can shape a person along with bringing people together to share one common passion.

"CNTRL" is a 6-minute short documentary that highlights this very unification, a single art form. This documentary explores the sonic journey of Michael Medeiros, a Toronto-born newcomer to the DJ scene and the community that surrounds electronic dance music. Through conversation with his mentor, Patrick Lewis, an involved member of the club scene in the early 90s, an understanding of this genre's roots and the growing impact it has on different communities, can be contrasted with Michael’s current presence and where he feels he lies. "CNTRL" touches not only upon the unification behind the music and this rising genre but the hardships that come with developing a new creative career. Michael’s journey and position in the scene highlight his mission to promote the core values of electronic music while beginning a new chapter through his efforts to produce and release electronic music.

We wanted to shed light on the story of an individual finding his place in a creative pool, connecting not only to musical artists but anyone who expresses themselves through art forms. As students who are stepping into this ever-growing industry, we feel it is important for creatives alike to feel as if they have some sense of belonging. Michael’s story is but one of many, however, it is a glimpse into a movement of music and art that is developing worldwide and has been shaping Toronto for decades.

With your support we can move forward with this documentary, submitting CNTRL to festivals around the world in the hopes of connecting and spreading this message of unification even further. Funding will go directly toward festival submissions.
