My name is Sandeep, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart with regard to my mother’s medical condition.

My mother has been visiting me in Canada since August 2024. On December 18, 2024, she developed medication toxicity to her prescription beta-blocker medication, propranolol, where her heart rate dropped in the low 20s. She was subsequently rushed to emergency at Misericordia Hospital, Edmonton, AB, Canada. She was subsequently in ICU until December 25, 2024 before being transferred to regular ward and is currently being treated there. During the course of her treatment, she developed further complications (lung infection) due to which her path to recovery appears to be prolonged, according to the doctors there. The current treatment bill is around $215,000 CAD

This has been an emotionally and financially taxing time for me and my family (my spouse and two children). My mother has no source of income, and following the passing away of my father, she is completely dependent on me. She is on visitor visa and is not covered by Alberta Health Care. Myself and my spouse both have our regular jobs which help us to meet our day-to-day expenses; however, it would not be sufficient enough to bear the cost of my mother’s prolonged treatment.
