Hello! My name is Gracie, wife to Aydin. Our story isn’t one that we have been the most open about; it’s a touchy subject for both of us. However, after a lot of life struggles and numerous letdowns by doctors, we’ve decided to share Aydin’s story with you all:
After some time of trying to navigate life through survival mode, we have found it difficult to get the care needed for the injury Aydin sustained a couple of years ago. Aydin is unfortunately a sufferer of medical malpractice, something not talked about enough, and nothing could justify the huge irreversible damage it has on him for the rest of his life.
Aydin unknowingly had Scheuermann’s Disease, a developmental disorder causing an excessive forward rounding of the spine. He went in for a chiropractic adjustment and suffered a medical malpractice injury to his back. Doctors described his injury as a sustained scoliosis by trauma to his T4 through T6 vertebrae, causing a left-pull in his upper/mid-back. Over the last couple of years, we have gone to several doctors, specialists, anesthesiologists, and treatments, and he has been prescribed over 25 different medications from various doctors. Time, unfortunately, has not helped healing, and Aydin has had MRI and X-ray confirmation of pinched nerves and herniated discs on top of his already sustained injury and Scheuermann’s Disease.
Navigating with this type of injury has been hard and extremely painful. Aydin luckily has a job that is gracious with him in letting him work lightly and go home early quite often. Unfortunately, his injury causes frequent flare-ups that make it difficult to maintain daily life, work, and do simple tasks such as getting out of bed without help. The pain is sharp and random, making him have to navigate very slowly and carefully every day. Doctors have let us know that back surgery would be extremely invasive, needing a large metal rod for correction. They did not recommend this option for his young age. This injury has been hard both mentally and physically.
That being said, we are left with continuing on with doctor visits, specialists, and our final goal of filing for disability. These items are helpful still, but come at a large cost that we are struggling to keep up with.
Any help or contributions are greatly appreciated and we continue to be gracious for the shared empathy, love, and support as we continue to figure out where we will go with treatment options next. We know God isn’t finished with him yet and are accepting any and all help that is offered, whether that is donations, empathy, meals, or prayers. All donations will contribute to Aydin’s health journey. I appreciate everyone who has read through this story. Thank you for your continuous love and support.
❤️ The Schupbach’s.
