Hi my name is Lauren and I’m a nurse. I’m also a mum. I’m trying to raise money to support aspiring nurses and midwives go to uni in remote villages in Malawi.
All women deserve healthcare and pregnant women, new mums and newborns are especially vulnerable.
Our mission is to support local Malawian
young women who are aspiring to become nurses and midwives to support their communities.
For a lot of women, they simply can’t afford to do a uni degree.
Tuition in Malawi is approximately 350-400,000mwk per annum. ($580)
There are also associated costs of books, stationery, uniforms and living expenses.
Accommodation & Board is 300,000MWK $430 per year
It takes four years to complete a Nursing/Midwifery degree at a local university.
Our goal is to provide financial support for underprivileged girls who cannot afford university.
The financial assistance would provide for tuition and expenses needed to complete the degree.
Currently there are approximately 4000 midwives for 4 million women. Another 20,000 midwives are needed to meet ratios of 1 midwife to 175 women.
$580 (Australian) will pay a years tuition for a nurse/ midwifery student.
We are also collecting cans and having sausage sizzles to raise funds.
