As some of you know, my dad, Steve Burns, has been in the hospital for a few weeks now.
With this, we are thinking long term. My father has been babysitting to earn money to spend on extra things as he is on SSI and can’t actually work. The money he has been saving he has also put towards others who needed things, and to the kids he has over at his place. He makes sure they have snacks and drinks. He goes all out for these kids to make sure they have a safe, fun place to enjoy.
Unfortunately, with being “disabled” and on SSI, my dad still pays rent. He does qualify for a whole $20 in food support a month. He does have Medicare but pays premiums and out of pocket for all his med costs and appointment co-pays. We’ve applied for MA and he gets denied because of his SSI.
With all that being said, we are now looking at him entering a transitional care facility upon discharge to learn how to walk again and build his strength back up. We are also adding 6 new medications that aren’t, for some godly reason, covered by his insurance plan and have to pay out of pocket for them to keep him alive at this point.
When I say my father would do anything for anyone, I think those who know him… know HIM. They could vouch for that. Anything helps with him moving forward and getting back into his everyday life as we try to figure out the back end of the financial part.
Thank you for reading and for all you guys do.
UPDATE; Nov 21 we lost a great man. The donations go towards his celebration of life. My dad was loved by many and I’ve been asked in how people can help.
