On August 19, 2024, Steph went to Kishwaukee Hospital because of rapid weight gain and not feeling the greatest. In a matter of hours, she was informed by the ER Doctor she was very sick and if she hadn’t come in on this day she would have been dead on Wednesday.
Steph was transferred to the ICU for continuation of care and further testing. During this process, she was informed that she had liver failure and kidney failure.
Steph’s first stay in the ICU at Kishwaukee Hospital for 9 days. She came home on August 28, 2024, and was readmitted on August 31, 2024, for the second stay. She was discharged on September 9, 2024, after being in the ICU for 9 more days. During this time she had a catheter implanted in her chest for dialysis along with a Paracentesis procedure to drain fluid from her abdomen. Also during this time, she had fluid around her heart which was causing shortness of breath and a procedure was done to remove said fluid.
On September 30, 2024, Steph was admitted to Central DuPage Hospital to be evaluated by the Hepatology and Nephrology team for liver and kidney transplant services. She was discharged on October 4, 2024.
On October 10, 2024, she returned to Kishwaukee Hospital for a third stay for hypothermia and low blood pressure. She was discharged on October 18, 2024. During this time she was diagnosed with Pneumonia and was never informed of being septic.
October 20, 2024, Steph was readmitted to Central DuPage Hospital due to not being able complete dialysis on Saturday and not feeling the greatest. When she woke up from her nap, she wasn’t feeling good still and close friends took her to Central DuPage Hospital because her husband was on shift at the time and not able to get away.
October 21, 2024, she was diagnosed with a pretty severe and aggressive blood infection. She has been put on strong antibiotics to combat this infection.
October 22, 2024, she is going in for surgery to remove the dialysis catheter to prevent further spread of infection. This will be a quick procedure done under twilight.
Over the last 2 months, Steph has incurred multiple stays in the hospital, 5- Paracentesis procedures done, numerous days of dialysis and a procedure to remove fluid around the heart.
Any amount will help but most of all prayers and positives thoughts are needed. She is a warrior and a fighter!! This will not be an easy battle but she will persevere.
