When I walked into St Joe Harley over two years ago and I met Stephanie for the first time we had an instant connection! She is the epitome of a good person. She would do anything for you, give you the shirt off of her back. She was always there for me whenever I was going through a really rough time in my life And I don’t know what I would do without her! On June 18th she went in to have a tumor taken off of her leg, it is Dermatofibrosarxoma Protuberans [DFSP] and she was told the margins were clear so they got it all. It didn’t take long to hear back that the dermatologist had made a mistake and they DIDN’T get it all. Then she finds out that KU let that dermatologist go because she shouldn’t have even attempted such a large soft tissue tumor, it should’ve been an oncology dermatologist doing the procedure but KU sent her to this one and now it seems none of them want to touch the leg. No follow up has been done since surgery! She was off 2 weeks and then returned to work. October 2nd she went in and had a Neuroendocrine cancer/carcinoid tumors removed with a third of her left lung. Two days later she went back in to get another chest tube placed to remove excess fluid buildup and for that she was wide awake for almost 4 hours from start to finish watching it all on a screen and very painful! Since then, she began having a migraine that would just not go away so she began seeing an amazing neurologist at menorah Medical Center. It appears to be a Meningioma tumor in the front of her brain at this point but she didn’t believe it was large enough to be the cause of her constant headaches. As of now, no follow up pet scan has been done. She went back to full-time work December 7th but when she went to the neurologist again on January 2 of this year, she was told by neurology that because of her symptoms that she was having she was no longer able to drive for six months or until tests reveal the cause of her symptoms. That led to her being laid off permanently on January 16th so she could draw unemployment because up until then she was not receiving anything. Stephanie lost her insurance at the end of January because she could no longer afford her high premiums which left her with no coverage at all. She was able to find coverage she could afford with her unemployment but that leaves her with nothing for the high copays for office visits and tests to be done! This girl has seriously been through so much and I just KNOW that her friends and family want to help her but haven’t had the opportunity. I know I wasn’t the only one who walked through the doors of Harley and felt the true authenticity of my girl!! Anything will help so please open your hearts and give what you can because she is buried in bills and can’t afford to follow up with anything because of high copays.
