Hi. My name is Ashley and I started this GoFundMe for my older sister, Sonya. She is a proud mother to 3 handsome boys and happily married. She's a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe, as well as a staple person in the deaf/hard of hearing community. As a profoundly deaf person, she has overcome a lot in her life, but she doesn't let not being able to hear stop her.

Back in March 2019, she was diagnosed with two types of cancers at the same time: breast and bone cancer (right breast and left back rib). After putting up a hell of a fight, losing her hair, and countless chemo treatments, she beat both cancers! Now, 6 years later, the breast cancer has come back and more aggressive than before. Now with the diagnosis of Metastatic Breast Cancer in the right breast again, her doctors at Duke have come up with the option of double mastectomy surgery in June. After the surgery, Sonya will endure chemotherapy treatments for up to 5 to 6 months.

We as a family have been down this road before and know the burden of stressing to pay bills and other daily necessities. So, with her last day of work being on June 13th, we are kindly asking for any kind of donations possible.
