My Uncle Shea went to the ER for stomach issues he had been experiencing for a few days. Initially, he thought it was nothing serious, but when it didn’t improve, he left work and went to the ER in Dubois. There, he underwent emergency surgery for burst ulcers and needed two blood infusions during the procedure. A CT scan and blood tests revealed more serious issues, including a high white blood cell count and cancer. Shea spent 1.5 weeks in Dubois before being transferred to AGH, where he remains. His wife has been by his side every day. During this stay, Shea had major surgery on his hip/femur area to address bone deterioration caused by cancer. He had been unable to walk or use his left leg for months, and now he knows why. Shea continues daily tests to understand his condition, as the swelling in his leg persists after surgery. He will need radiation and possibly chemotherapy, and he is running out of sick and vacation time at work. His wife has been traveling to be with him, missing work and paying for motels and food out of pocket. The medical bills are piling up, and they are struggling to keep up with payments. This journey is physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting for the family. I’d like to help my aunt and uncle if possible. Although Shea may seem tough and stubborn, he always tries to help others, even when he can’t. I want to do the same for him. If you can’t donate, please just share.
