My name is Tia Elise. I’m a 35-year-old single mother to a two-year-old boy named Jayce. A month after his birth, my heart started failing, and it’s been progressively getting worse for the past year. Now, I’m facing the toughest challenge of my life—I need a heart transplant, and it seems like it’s coming sooner rather than later. As much as I hate asking for help, I need to ensure that my mom and son have everything they need while I wait for the transplant. I’m currently still waiting for a disability determination, and unfortunately, bills still need to be paid. We also need a way to travel back and forth between home and UAB in Birmingham, Alabama, where I hope doctors can fix what’s broken and give me and my son many more years together.
