Yesterday, after flying home from an International Youth Forum in New York City, I arrived at my parents’ house in Dallas to find all of my belongings on the curb. All of my important belongings like my research papers, school printer, clothes, suitcase all smashed and/or burned. When I knocked on the door, I was told by my parents that I was no longer welcome in their home because they had discovered that I'm gay. They had invaded my privacy by going through my room without permission and left me outside in 100-degree Texas heat without water or a way to cool down.

After six hours on the curb, I had a severe migraine and fever, called an ambulance, and was taken to the hospital for a heat stroke. I was treated and hydrated intravenously. Right now, I'm waiting on being discharged, with no safe place to go. I called about 16 different shelters and none could promise me a bed, a shower, nor protection from theft or violence. I'm 24 years old, non-binary, and a full-time college student. I start a full-time job in a few weeks, but right now I need immediate help to stay safe, sleep, eat, and bridge the gap until my first paycheck arrives.

My commitment to advocacy started in 2019 during the George Floyd protests. I began posting online about the justice system and the treatment of Black and Brown communities. The response showed me how many people shared my same sentiment and urgency for change in our police and judicial system.

Soon thereafter, I joined 'TikTok for Biden' (which later became what is now Gen-Z for Change,) a coalition that uses social media and advocacy to drive real progressive change. Together, we've activated hundreds of creators reaching hundreds of millions of followers across various social media pages. We've broken down issues from climate to reproductive justice into accessible content for young folks and gave people clear ways to take action, online and in person. Our work has been recognized by the White House, The Washington Post, Forbes, Teen Vogue, and other prominent orgs.

I also serve as the Vice President of the Texas chapter of Voters of Tomorrow, where I help organize young people at the Texas Capitol in Austin to defend marginalized rights and our future.

This is the context in which my family’s rejection happened. The very work I do to protect people like me is the reason I can’t go home.

My Short-Term Goals for now are as follows:

  • Immediate safe shelter (weekly or biweekly motel while I secure housing)
  • First month’s rent and security deposit (to move into stable housing)
  • Food and basic necessities (to stay healthy and able to work)
  • Viable transportation (to make job onboarding and classes)
  • Medical bills from the ambulance and ER visit for heat stroke
  • Replacing destroyed essentials (clothes, school printer, and critical school materials)

Estimated costs (will update as bills arrive):

  • Temporary lodging (2 to 3 weeks): $600 to $1,200 depending on availability
  • Move-in costs (first month and deposit): $1,800 to $3,000 depending on rent
  • Food and transit (3 to 4 weeks): $300 to $600
  • Medical bills (ambulance and ER/IV): $2,500 to $5,000+ (pending final statements)
  • Replacing essentials (clothing, printer, supplies): $400 to $900

I will post updates and receipts so everybody reading my story and donating knows exactly how funds are used.

This week I plan to secure a clean, safe motel so I can shower, rest, and stabilize. I also need to replace immediate essentials for school and work. Over the next few weeks, I will finalize housing and pay move-in costs while continuing classes and starting my new job. I will share proof of payments and progress updates here.

Stability means I can keep showing up for my education, my new job, and the advocacy I’ve dedicated myself to since 2019. I honestly feel like everything has been uprooted and I just don't know how to move forward from here.

I am grateful to anyone who reads, donates, or shares. Your help is more than charity, truly. And I'm deeply grateful to everyone who even gets to read this.

Thank you for standing with me.

I’ll continue to update this page with progress, costs, and milestones so you can see your support at work.
