Home Fur Good volunteer Jessi Newton is facing severe health challenges. Her pituitary gland is not functioning properly, leaving her unable to absorb nourishment from the food she eats. Jessi must undergo another round of intensive medical treatments or risk starvation. Jessi also happens to be blind. As she fights to regain her health, she continues to care for Piper, the beloved Home Fur Good alum she adopted after losing her previous dog, Serena.

Piper is a loyal companion and certified therapy dog who plays an important role in Jessi’s recovery. She gives Jessi strength and comfort during treatments and brings joy to others, visiting children with cancer and veterans at a senior center. Piper truly spreads the Home Fur Good mission wherever she goes. (Please see attached feature about Piper’s service career.)

Unfortunately, Piper’s allergies require ongoing medical care and a specialized diet that can exceed $100 per month, not including veterinary rechecks and retesting. These costs add a strain to Jessi’s already difficult situation.

The Piper’s Care Cushion fundraiser will create a financial cushion for Piper’s food and medical expenses. This support will help relieve Jessi’s burden and ensure Piper remains healthy and secure, whether she stays with Jessi or temporarily with a trusted friend.

Our goal is to raise $2,500 to cover Piper’s care for the coming year. By helping Piper, we are also helping Jessi, one of Home Fur Good’s dedicated volunteers, and ensuring that two of our best goodwill ambassadors can continue representing Home Fur Good with love and pride.

Piper’s journey from shelter dog to certified therapy dog is nothing short of inspiring. She was adopted by Home Fur Good volunteer Jessi, who was grieving the loss of her beloved dog, Serena. Piper quickly filled the void with love, loyalty, and a calming presence that would soon prove invaluable.

Piper stood by Jessi through a tough series of medical treatments, offering comfort and companionship every step of the way. While Jessi healed, Piper extended her healing energy to others, visiting children at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Her gentle nature and loving eyes made her an instant favorite among the young patients.

Now, Piper brings joy and peace to a local memory care center three times a week. She seems to instinctively know what each resident needs; sometimes it’s just her head resting in a lap, and other times, her whole body snuggled in a wheelchair. She even finds a way to comfort a bedridden woman, positioning herself for perfect petting and snuggles.

Jessi couldn’t be prouder of Piper, and neither could we. Piper is a shining example of the incredible potential shelter dogs have. She’s not just a good girl—she’s a true ambassador for adoption.
