My name is Shafi, together with my partner, we are refugees in Gorom refugee camp, South Sudan. I'm a Ugandan who by all means cannot go back to my country because of the constitution, I was disowned by my parents, family and friends because of my sexual orientation.
I've moved to so many places in the pursuit of my safety and freedom of expression but all in vain, only to be discriminated and persecuted, I have been in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya for so many years but the stigma and trauma really it so impossible for me to stay there anymore,
It is then that I was forced to flee to South Sudan not because it was the best option but because it was the nearest of countries and easy to enter.
But just like Kenya and my country, the situation is as bad and even worse.
We are not taken as people, stereotyped way from the government, all institutions and fellow homophobic refugees.
We can hardly get something to eat or even medication because we are always left out.
Without any help, we can barely have a meal a day.
So it's in this vain that we put our cry to everyone out there to help us have a change in our lifestyle. We would like to build a proper shelter, stock food and also medicines.
We believe that with all this, we can avoid contact with people and keep independent and for ourselves.
PS:
Hi! I'm Lila and the direct beneficiary of the money will be me. I'm from America. shafi is my friend and will be receiving the funding from me and I'll use remitly to deliver the funding. The funding will go towards monthly antiretrovirals (now 100$ per month because of tariffs), food, ulcer medicine and shelter building supplies. shafi is recovering from a brain injury sustained from prejudice and needs support.
