Meet the Family: Kim, David, and Makayla

Kim, David, and Makayla are a close-knit family facing extraordinary challenges. Kim, the mother, lives with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a condition similar to brittle bone disease that severely limits her mobility. David, her husband, is battling Crohn's disease while also dealing with the long-term effects of physical and cranial injuries sustained during years of demanding labor. Their daughter, Makayla, is navigating the world with severe autism, requiring constant care and attention.

A Desperate Situation

Life has dealt this family some tough blows. After losing their home, they relied on their car as their only refuge. But during Tropical Storm Debby, even that was taken from them. Now homeless in Orlando, Florida, they face the scorching heat, constant threats to their health, and the daily struggle to survive without any form of shelter or transportation.

Kim and David have exhausted all their savings, including their 401(k), and despite their critical health conditions, they cannot receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) due to their current homeless status—a process that takes too long, while their time is running out.

A Sister's Plea for Help

Rachel, their oldest daughter, has stepped in as their lifeline. However, living 12 hours away in Memphis, Tennessee, and making just above minimum wage, Rachel is struggling to provide the support her family so desperately needs. She cannot do this alone.
