It's been 3 months today, April 1st, that I've been living in my car.
Me and my cat, Chiqa, have been struggling through the winter, and while my saved funds and friendly donations have kept us afloat, I may have a real opportunity to get us a warm, safe place to live. The Flats at Chase reached out to me about applying for an apartment, and I saw the sign and jumped.
I got into Oregon University back in 2020 when I graduated high school (forever a Duck!!), but I couldn't make the trip out there and had to move on. This looks like a way back into school, back toward a place I want to be, and a path toward a heartfelt career. My desired major then was psychology, and while I'm not against pursuing that also, this time in my life has shown me we as a country need someone to advocate for the homeless—politically and socially, as I found most things are gated in such a way to keep the homeless further than arm's reach from basic needs.
If you have the means to help me and my sweet bean (that's my Chiqa cat), I'd be beyond and superbly grateful, and promise to utilize myself better to better our country.
Update: I've approved for the apartment and signed the lease!
Update: My case manager Kalea, from my time at AFC in New York, registered Chiqa as my ESA, and I'll be getting that letter soon(they're truly an angel)
Update: With a second proof of address, I'll be getting my car plated and registered in time to make the trip!
We're doing great, goal-wise, and y'all are the most amazing people, I wish I could hug each and every person who shared and/or donated!
Cost Breakdown:
- $200 for car registration and plating
- $300 fuel expense(2,310 mile drive)
- $500 food expenses for Chiqa and myself during April while we settle in and establish work(in contact with Allied Universal at the moment)
- $1,649 for final month's rent
- $851 allocated toward medications, home supplies like toiletries, and school supplies so I can transition back into college
