I'm writing this with tears running down my face. I apologize if it appears I'm all over the place. Friends & family, Veronica Costa and myself are coming to you for help. On May 30, 2024 our dear friend and Lower Lake High classmate, Delilah Smith Jones, lost her battle to cancer. Many of us were shocked to hear the news almost 2 months after her passing, as it wasn't shared with a lot of people she grew up with and the family relied on those who did know, to share it with others.
Many of us knew of the struggles Lila had while battling cancer. She was raising her 15yr old son who has a dual diagnosis of Downs syndrome and Non Verbal Autism, while her daughter was taking care of her through IHSS. I can't even imagine how Everett is doing trying to process all of this information without having behaviors. The girls are taking care of him and just got custody of their brother. I have offered my services to help them advocate any needs Everett may have that need to be filled as well as sharing some resources the girls may not know about while making sure his rights are not being violated.
In the last 10yrs this family has endured a lot of loss at such young ages. Their father Floyd Sr., their Aunt Lena, their brother Floyd Jr., and now their mom Lila. We are hoping you, our friends, our classmates, and who a lot of us Lila considered family, are able to help out and help her children get into a home and start normalizing life's new journey.
Friends and family, we are asking you to please donate what you can, EVERY dollar counts. Veronica and I thought about raising money to help these kids, so our goal is set high. The kids are homeless right now and need to come up with a deposit for a house their tribe found in Hoopa. Remember, Lila herself was living out of a motel in Lake County so we know the kids will possibly need household items. Our goal is to raise enough money to help take some worry off their shoulders. We are hoping we can raise enough money where they have money to do something fun with Everett. It's time the family of 3 who leans on one another, gets to see how much we love and cared for Lila and show them the small community love we all were raised with and still have. Every dollar counts! Zero judgement. if you can give $1 do so, if you can do more.... that would be greatly appreciated. If anything, please share and ask your friends to share this. I will try to put an Indian Taco sale together in the next few months. I'm just waiting to hear back from family and friends for help as I cannot do it alone and still have my medical needs I have to attend to.
