Hi,
My name is Manpreet. I moved to the UK from Canada to be with my husband October 2021. After over a decade of wanting a Ragdoll, in February 2022 I got my precious fur-baby, Sir Nigel. I actually teared up when I first saw him.
He’s been my lifeline through a difficult transition. He’s my baby, my best friend, and my therapist all in one. We lived in city centre for the first 6 months of Sir Nigel living with us and I trained him to go out with my in his bag and sometimes leash for walks. He was easy going and got lots of pats from passers by. He enjoyed his adventures.
My husband got Lady Reina as a Christmas gift for Sir Nigel to have a friend for when we are at work.
Unfortunately, 2 months ago Sir Nigel began getting Ill. He was beginning to go outside the litter box and his appetite decreased drastically. He had a lump in his stomach which was thought to be inflammation in his intestines. He went through a course of antibiotics (twice). We eventually had to do some steroid injections and then tablets. Eventually all temp fixes stopped working. He had blood work twice an X-ray and an ultrasound. We were relieved to learn he didn’t have lymphoma. However, today his blood work along with his clinical symptoms have confirmed FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis ). In other words, Covid in cats. He’s now got a fever, and his back legs are wobbly from time to time. The vet said he will have neurological then respiratory conditions eventually.
The silver lining is there is hope. Two new antiviral drugs have shown 85-95% success. However, this is extremely costly. Sir Nigel does have insurance but it won’t cover the amount and in addition there are lab and diagnostic testing. We’re hoping we can raise enough for 1 course of treatment and hoping that will be enough.
This is where we are having to ask for help for the first time from all of you. We would not ask if we could find another way. Sir Nigel is part of our family. He has given us so much love support and joy over the year (and it has not been an easy one). We really hope, with your help we can get him on the mend to live longer than his short 1.5 year life. So please, if you can afford to, we would appreciate any small amount.
This link has some info on FIP and the treatment.
For more pictures of Sir Nigel and Lady Reina you can see their instagram [email redacted]wingtons_dolls linked above. I will post updates daily on vet visits (including receipts) and status of Sir Nigel.
Please note, if we end up with more funds than needed, they will be donated to FIP research and this will be documented also.
