I am helping Igor and Ksenia Sychev with this fundraiser to help them pay for their daughter's hospital and therapy bills. Here is what happened to Sasha—in their own words.
Our Sasha, our only child, was a sweet, curious, active kid—until OCD took over her life two years ago. Her symptoms became so overwhelming that she spent literally hours washing and scrubbing her hands. Daily routine was critically affected by the disorder, as she would come to school late and avoid her favorite activities, such as ballet and swimming. We tried to help her as much as we could, we knew so little about OCD at the time and understood even less. On December 5th 2023, just days before her 12th birthday, Sasha was admitted to Seattle Children’s after a suicide attempt in connection to her OCD.
In January 2024, we were very lucky to receive a spot in Rogers Behavioral Health partial hospitalization program, where Sasha went through Exposure and Response prevention therapy. Finally, we saw critical progress in Sasha’s emotional and physical state. She went from not being able to briefly touch the toilet flush handle with one finger to being able to lie on the bathroom floor in the clinic with her hair touching the tiles! This practice may sound weird, but it’s how properly performed ERP works!
After Sasha’s discharge from Rogers, we had a tough time finding an ERP-trained therapist for her, as there is a catastrophic lack of professionals who work with OCD. While Sasha is finally working with a wonderful and experienced therapist, we also recognize that her current phenomenal progress is fluid, as OCD is a chronic disorder that will require life-long support.
At this point in time, as Sasha is fighting for her life, we have drained our savings to pay for the hospitalization and therapy visits that are so critical for Sasha’s well-being. We are working multiple jobs to help sustain her progress, but we weren’t able to work much during the initial period of her disease and are currently trying to catch up with her medical bills.
We have an outstanding amount of $17,000 that needs to be paid for her hospitalization stay and therapy (2x per week at $160 per session) since April, as Sasha’s medical insurance is out-of-network for these services.
We are asking our Seattle community, our friends and neighbors, for help during this difficult time in our lives. Please help us keep helping Sasha and possibly save her life. Like many 13 year-olds, she is looking forward to prom, football games, eating ice-cream with her friends and simply being a teenager.
Please help us make it a reality for her.
