8/9 Update:
We saw our regular vet this past week. Peaches is doing really well. We did X-rays and Bloodwork, but breathing was great and heart sounded great. She will see once the bloodwork comes back if everything is headed in the right direction. Continuing on all the same meds and will order the very expensive FIP med. Will follow up with another appointment in two weeks. The morning of this appointment Peaches didn’t seem like she was really bouncing back but the last couple of days she seems totally back to normal. Hoping this continues!

I’m a little embarrassed to be doing this but if anyone knows me, I’ll do anything for my animals to make sure they get the care they need. It’s very hard for me to give up and say no when quality of life is possible, but costs money. We knew Peachy was the million dollar kitty, but I really thought we got over those humps.

Two weeks ago she wasn’t feeling well and I could tell she wasn’t eating. I called the vet last Tuesday and we got some meds. Friday morning she was worse and I rushed her to Cornell. She was immediately transferred to internal medicine and admitted. She had low blood pressure, hypothermic, anemic and had fluid in her abdomen and chest. It wasn’t looking good. They gave me an estimate of $3,000 to $6000. Thankfully I had almost fully paid off my care credit and I requested an increase that was approved of $6000.

Peaches received the works and had great care from the Drs and students at Cornell. She was in oxygen and receiving around the clock care. They tested the fluid and it was mast cell but they weren’t able to find an actual tumor. Their other thought was Wet FIP. Thankfully Saturday she started to show improvements and with Lasix they were able to start to see a reduction in fluid. FIP use to be a death sentence but there is a med that was approved and they had me order that but it wasn’t going to be delivered until Tuesday (only one compound pharmacy is actually approved to dispense it and they were 4 hours away. Otherwise I would have drove to get it). She also showed an enlarged heart, which could have been due to the fluid in her chest, but could also have been a cause for the fluid or due to her small stature she may have the start of heart disease. Due to her being on Lasix the cardiology team wanted to hold off on anything. They also wanted to do a Derm biopsy on some skin issues she was having. I asked to hold off on that because we were getting close to the high end of the quote and I did not have enough on my CareCredit. She continued to show improvement with the current course of meds and was discharged home Monday while we wait for the GS med for Wet FIP.

She’s been home and we are on the GS med for FIP, an antihistamine, Lasix, Clavamox and an anti nausea med. She’s doing well, but she’s still not 100%. She has to go back Wednesday for an ultrasound and bloodwork and if the GS med is working, she will need another 10 weeks of that med. I only received 2 weeks and it was $230 ($280 with overnight shipping). If it isn’t working we will have to configure our course of treatment. Possibly lean toward a mast cell tumor somewhere.

She is going to need continued bloodwork through out the next few weeks, as a well as ultrasounds to make sure the fluid is gone and a possible cardiology appointment and due to her size she will need an anesthesia team and the meds, which the GS, if I’m calculating it correctly will be around $1200.

I can’t give up but timing is so bad with the new house almost being finished and all of our extra money going towards that recently. I hate to beg, but I am begging for help to get Peaches the help she needs. She’s only 4.

She isn’t in the rescue (I haven’t done anything with any rescue for years) so it’s not tax deductible, it’s just us. I’m not sure of the exact cost the next few months will be, but four days costs us $5600 so I know it won’t be cheap and anything left over will be saved for any future appointments she may need.

*I have the full invoice but I couldn’t get the PDF to upload so I took a picture of the first and last page. If anyone would like the full PDF, let me know and I will share it. I was only able to upload 5 photos.
