Hi, I'm Joseph Rivage and I help run a Shuffleboard League in my home town of Troy, New York. As a member of the group that manages our league I have been tasked with raising the money we need to buy equipment for our league so that it may continue. Please read our story below to get details of our situation. When our goal is met the money raised through this GoFundMe will be transferred to my account and managed by me on behalf of our shuffleboard league. All money raised in this fundraiser will pay for equipment that's needed in order for our league to function. It will be allocated as follows:

-(2) PolyCourt shuffleboard lanes
-(2) Sets of Tangs and Biscuits for players to use
-(2) Scoreboards
-Supplies needed to maintain the equipment (i.e. silicone spray for the disks etc.)
-Personalization of the equipment to distinguish that it belongs to our league (if we exceed our fundraising goal)

All the equipment will be purchased by me through Allen Shuffleboard located in Seminole Florida and shipped up to us here in Troy, New York.

Shuffleboard… Isn’t that the thing old people play on cruise ships? I guess, but it’s ALSO a league sport that a group of Capital Regioners of all ages grew to love at Franklin Alley Social Club in Troy, NY.

League history:

The Franklin Alley Shuffleboard League began in Spring 2018. Since then, we have had around 3 seasons a year - spring, winter, and fall. There was a small pause for COVID, but not even that could keep us from our passion for long! Over time, we turned our fun “bar game” to a real hobby. We’ve travelled to Brooklyn and Chicago to compete in national tournaments with other passionate people. We also host a friendly tournament against our shuffleboard family in Brooklyn.

This winter, our beloved Franklin Alley closed for the foreseeable future. This was our hangout, our third place, the place where friendships were forged and memories made. It is also the only place within 100 miles that has indoor shuffleboard courts, which makes league play impossible.

After months of searching for a lead on a large enough space to support 50+ people, two 52’x6’ shuffleboard courts, 2’ of buffer, as well as some drinks/food; we found our new home! Bye-I Brewing on Saratoga Street in Cohoes, NY has offered us a space in their new location where we can host our league. We are so thankful to the owners and are looking forward to a new era of shuffleboard!

So what do we need?:

In order to begin this new phase, we need to raise $6000. Your money will go to the following equipment:

Two Portable Poly Courts: obviously essential to the game. These are well built and easy to set up and take apart. To host an appropriate league, we will need two of them. They are around $2250 a piece, plus shipping (which is a LOT for something of this size).

Tangs and Biscuits: there are some diehards (like this author) who have their own tangs (the stick thing you shoot the biscuits with), but not everyone does, so these will provide access to the sport for all! Biscuits are also a key part of shuffleboard. Two sets to appropriately service a league is around $370 (plus shipping).

Scoreboards: what’s a game without scoring? We are looking to build our own scoreboards, but still need to buy materials (approx.) $200.

Any money that is left over will ONLY be spent on the league for things like:

Signage/advertising
Equipment repair
Court upgrades/repairs
Community events

This league means so much to so many people. We want to keep our passion alive and the only way we can have a chance at survival is with YOUR help. $5? $10? Whatever it is, it will help us and we will be so grateful to you. And when our season kicks off in September at Bye-i Brewing, join us for a beer and a few throws - you won’t regret it!
