On February 11th, a good Samaritan captured a video of a dog being transported on a trailer on I-94 in Lake County and posted the video on Facebook where it went viral and was picked up by all the Chicago media. The Indiana State Police investigated the video and rescued the dog and later charged the owner with misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. The dog, Midnight, was transported to the Gary Animal Shelter where it received much-needed medical attention. He was then transported to a foster home where he is currently being housed. His condition ranked a 3 on a 1-9 scale. In other words, he is in trouble health-wise. He was diagnosed with several problems, including his body being infected with parasites, urinating blood, blood clots in his urine, an eye infection, injury to his head and ears, as well as being malnourished.
This GoFundMe is being established to provide much-needed medical care to Midnight. So far, his medical bills are approximately $2,000, but that will continue to increase. He will need food and additional medicines to treat him and get him back to being a healthy dog. Any excess money raised will be donated to the Vale Park Medical Center in Valparaiso where Midnight is currently being treated. Any extra will be placed into an account to treat other abused animals that may need emergency care.
