- Hi. My name is Samantha Rubin-Roll and I am an animal lover. I have raised and bottle fed 7 litters of kittens(maybe more) over 18years. One litter was very special. I fostered them until they were all homed but one came back to me sooner and the other in an unfortunate event. The boy cat named Mako was given to my best friend in the whole world. She passed away from suicide in 2016 and specifically wrote her will begging me to give him the best life possible. So I obliged. Mako is the kind of cat who would respond when talked to. He would walk with me to go get the mail. He would stop if I did and look at me. He was more loyal than a dog. I knew my friend's spirit was still tied to him. One week ago I noticed Mako was having neurological issues. He couldn't hold his head up right and was wobbly. I took him to my regular vet but it wasn't enough despite my amazing vet's efforts. He needed more life saving measures. I brought him to AVECCC and the mass on his kidney my vet found was in fact on his adrenal gland. It sits on the kidney and was the reason for his potassium being so low which was causing the neurological issues. It's called an aldosteronoma. A tumor. It has to be removed in order to save his life. It's extremely dangerous because of the location of blood vessels and the location of the aorta and bleeding potential. I am told.
