Kala started having breathing difficulties March 25 and got rushed to the emergency vet and put in an oxygen kennel. She had fluid in her lungs and abdomen, severely inflamed intestines, critically low protein and albumin, significant weight loss and muscle wasting. There was also a possibility of abdominal tumors on the ultrasound. She got a plasma transfusion which slightly improved her protein and albumin, but was still low. After 2 1/2 days in the ER vet, we brought her home with a bunch of meds and a possible diagnosis of Protein Losing Enteropathy (PLE), but could still be cancer without having further analysis of the tumors. We were told to follow up quickly with our regular vet to further pursue a diagnosis or learn how to maintain the PLE.
So we did that. Protein and albumin were still abnormally low and she wasn’t gaining weight. Increased her prednisone and made an appointment with a specialist.
Fast forward to today. She had her appointment with the specialist and we just want answers. Feels like we’re spinning in circles and spending more and more money with limited answers. We are over $10,000 with no answers or treatment plan yet. We do have some tests pending tonight and go back to pick her up this evening.
I’m sure I’ve missed many details because my mind is mush and everything is a blur. I’d be more than happy to upload vet bills. I understand times are tough. Any help would be deeply appreciated. We didn’t expect any of this and already had so much happen with other animals this year. Anyone who knows us knows our pets are our life and our children. We’re not ready to give up yet
