My name is Judi Sparagna, mom to the most sweet Borzoi ever. His calling is to be a therapy dog like his predecessor. He contracted Leptospirosis about three weeks ago. This disease is carried by rodents, other dogs, standing water, etc., and is quite deadly.

He has been in Med-Vet almost 4 weeks, and has undergone 4 dialysis treatments, IV fluids, blood collections, tube feeding, and a catheter. Remarkably his kidney began repairing itself and his creatine is down to 2.3 and continuing downward.

However, he still needs IV fluids continually, as his kidneys are passing the fluids right through his system. When the IV fluids are removed he becomes dehydrated which will damage his healing kidneys again. Med-Vet is certain his kidneys will fully begin processing fluids properly. It’s just a matter of time.

Unfortunately, it’s time I can’t give him, as my funds have been exhausted. This means after the brave fight my boy has endured, he will not make it if the IV fluids and monitoring is not done professionally.

I have always been self-sufficient. Having to ask for help is so against my nature. But Fred is so close to returning home, I will try anything to keep from pulling the plug prematurely.
