On Monday July 8th, the Czarnecki family found out that their beloved rescue dog Cosmo had a cancerous mast cell tumor on his chest. They had recently celebrated their one year “Gotcha Day” anniversary of adopting Cosmo who, after being abused and neglected for the first 5 years of his life, had spent a year in the shelter and suffered through multiple failed adoptions before finding his forever home.
On Wednesday July 10th, the Czarnecki’s were relieved to hear that the cancer had not yet metastasized, making Cosmo a candidate for surgery to remove the tumor. The Czarnecki family of course did not hesitate in going ahead with the surgery which ultimately would save the life of their beloved friend.
Comso’s surgery was successful in removing all of the cancerous growth, and he is currently home recovering with a 10 inch incision down the length of his chest due to the size of the tumor. He is expected to make a full recovery and thanks to this life saving surgery should be able to enjoy a long and healthy life!
Unfortunately this entire ordeal presented itself during a time where the Czarnecki family was already navigating immense financial strain. With two disabled children to care for, Justyn and Ashley face a near revolving door of financial stresses to give their boys the best life possible. One soul that adds immense joy and quality to both the boys lives is Cosmo. He provides immense emotional support to Henry, his autistic human brother. He is also an angel on earth with unlimited gentleness and patience for Ellison, his 2 year old human brother with Down syndrome.
My hope with this GoFundMe campaign is to ease the financial strain of this unexpected turn of events for Cosmo. All parents know this, but parents of special needs children especially do - sometimes it takes a village, so we are hoping our village can help Justyn and Ashley through this difficult time by contributing to the cost of Cosmo’s surgery.
$1000 will cover the cost of the initial diagnostic visit, a chest x ray, blood work, the entire surgery cost, medications and post surgical vet visits for Cosmo. Anything above the cost of the surgery raised from this campaign will be donated to the Denver Dumb Friends League - the shelter that cared for Cosmo as he waited for his forever family.
