Donate to Save Coco: A Rescued Pup's Fight

Donation protected
Coco is our fur baby that was rescued 5 years ago, she was neglected and abused as a puppy and we nursed her back to health. Recently our other rescue pup escaped the house and Coco chased after her. Later that night one dog came home without Coco. Our family was heart broken and spent the next 2 weeks putting up missing posters, checking shelters, posting online and searching for her.

About 1 week ago I got a random message about a dog stuck under a large construction dumpster in the woods behind my house. When I arrived our local fire department and animal rescue had managed to lift the dumpster off of her. Unfortunately our baby was pretty severely hurt. We aren’t fully sure of the time line but the night she went missing we had a massive thunderstorm and I think she may have crawled under trying to hide and gotten stuck. In the process of crawling under our fur baby sliced open her right side leaving a laceration that was 8” long and down to her rib cage. On her left side she developed multiple pressure sores and abscesses. All of her wounds were infected and necrotic, and those are only the major injuries. She spent 2 nights at the Emergency Veterinarian and over the past 6 days has had 5 operations to debride and clean her wounds.

Our family struggled the first 3 days on whether or not to put her down, but she is a fighter and we ultimately decided to give her a fighting chance. While at the vet they did imaging and told us she had been eating the dirt from under the dumpster to survive and her nails on one front paw was worn down from her struggling to get out for so long. She was in a lot of pain the first night home but we are now fully managing her pain and as of yesterday has started to act like her normal sweet and spicy self. I am an ER nurse so to help cut down on costs I am changing her bandages and doing wound care at home, but the cost of her surgery to close all her wounds is about 3 months pay. I am not asking for the full amount but anything anyone can help would be greatly appreciated! We are hoping she is healed enough to be closed up this next week if possible, but it’s still day by day right now.

Our local news also caught wind of Coco’s rescue and posted a small story about her that you can read below. Any help for Coco would be a huge blessing and if you can’t help please keep her in your prayers! Thank you! #CocoStrong
