Yesterday I was taking the dogs for their weekly walk, I walk them one at a time because I’m not strong enough to walk then all together. I was taking Chance for her turn and on our way home a stray or lost pet came out of nowhere and attacked her. I fought for 15 or so minutes to try and get the dog off of her. When I was able to break them apart I held onto the stray as chance drug herself back to our yard. Thankfully we were pretty much home. She couldn’t walk so she literally drug herself home. When I was finally able to let the other dog go he/she just ran off. I was able to get her inside and immediately called my wife to come home so she can carry Chance to the car. We rushed her to the emergency vet and they had to carry her in on a stretcher again because she couldn’t walk. They were able to stabilize her and took x rays and blood work. Once she was stabilized they let us know she had upwards of 30 puncture wounds and a broken wrist. Several lacerations needed stitches a couple needed drains and both bones in her wrist were broken. They sedated her so they could splint the wrist. They stitched the wounds that needed stitches and placed the drains in the ones that needed them. She spent the night due to shock and they wanted to make sure nothing else happened. We have been instructed to have the splint changed every 3 days and was quoted $677.00 every 3 days because they have to sedate her to do it. So far we’ve been quoted between $9-10 thousand dollars for the surgery as well as the 5700$ the emergency room cost us. We barely qualified for that. So a simple walk was traumatizing to Chance. If we can’t raise the money she will have to have her leg amputated. We really hope we don’t have to make that call. I’m sorry for asking because I never try and ask for anything ever but I don’t know what else to do. Our furnace went out 2 weeks ago and we were trying to figure out how to raise the 7000$ needed for that. If you can help I would be appreciate you forever. The emergency room bill was a total of $5519.11. We have been quoted between $9-10 thousand dollars for the surgery to save her leg and every 3 day it’s going to cost $677.00 to sedate her and change her splint due to injuries on her broken leg under the splint. I don’t ever ask for anything or help but I can’t let her lose her leg because I wasn’t strong enough due to my cancer that she was viciously attacked by a stray dog.
