Support Carlos Chan's Fight Against Cancer

We know Carlos (age 31) as a guide to the spectacular cenotes of Homún, Yucatan, Mexico. He is one of the kindest, most wonderful people you will ever meet. He has a wife, Maria, and two young daughters, ages 5 and 12. Recently, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer and is presently at an oncology clinic in Merida. The cancer was diagnosed as stage 4, and since he was admitted in March, he has been bravely fighting and surviving one setback after another. The doctors found cancer in one of his kidneys and removed it. Fortunately, the other was cancer-free. Then, on May 13th, he suffered a mini-heart attack (unstable angina) but now seems to be recovering from that. The radiation therapy was completed on May 26th, and next up is a stem cell transplant and eventually stomach surgery to remove the cancer. Carlos is a direct descendant of the original Mayans from that area. In fact, his last name, Chan, is not Asian but rather Mayan and has multiple meanings in English. Carlos is a true fighter but is racking up some large medical bills, and in addition, as the sole provider, his family needs funds to pay the bills. So, please, won't you help the Chan family? Any amount helps and you can be an anonymous donor if you choose. But what helps even more is to crowdsource this request. You know people who we don't. Please send this link onward and ask your friends to do the same. There will be regular updates on Carlos' condition here. Watch your donations help save his life and support his family! Thank you.

UPDATE June 5, 2025: Good News! The stem cell transplant was successful in restoring Carlos' blood cell count. It is expected that he will be moved out of the emergency room (ICU) to better quarters within a week. As you might imagine, this has been very difficult for his wife who is spending almost every day at the clinic. A big thank you to all supporting his care. Your generosity is now part of the fight. We are grateful to have you with us!

UPDATE July 11, 2025
From his wife: "Today the doctor told me that the results of the tests are very good. With the radiation, it was possible to eliminate 75 percent of the cancer, more than 50 percent of the disease. He informed me that with the stomach surgery, it will be very likely to eliminate the cancer completely, having a successful result throughout the treatment. It has also been possible to increase the platelets with the stem cells. I am very happy with this result. We just have to continue with extreme care to soon be able to perform the last surgery. If everything continues like this with these results, it is very likely that it will be soon.
