My sweet girl, Cali, a 10-year-old Shiba Inu, recently had head and sinus X-rays and the vet believes she has found a tumor in her right nasal cavity and recommended we take her to get a CT scan and biopsy to get more information as to how aggressive this tumor is and determine the best treatment going forward.

This all started with inverted sneezing in the fall and the vet told me it was allergies, gave me some medication and sent us on our way. After going through the medication, it seemed to go away for a little bit. It then progressed to bloody mucus discharge with constant sneezing fits. This prompted us to get X-rays done to rule out any possible abscessed teeth to see if that caused any infection. Instead, the vet did not find any abscessed teeth, which is good, but her entire right side of her nasal cavity partially blocked. If it’s been confirmed that she has cancer, she will need radiation in Iowa as that is the closest location to us to receive treatment, and the cost is unfortunately quite high.

Cali is more than just a pet to me; everyone talks about their first love, but no one ever talks about the soul dog you get in your 20’s that is with you through everything and teaches you the true meaning of unconditional love. I'm doing everything I can to ensure she gets the care she needs, but I'm struggling to cover the unexpected vet bills.
